The
peaceful surroundings and idyllic atmosphere of Bayport makes it an ideal place
for people to enjoy the autumns of their lives in calm and free of worry.
Maintaining an owned home can be a chore and upfront payments for homes can
make serious dents in precious savings. Fairway Manor in Bayport offers an
interesting alternative. A two
year lease gains access free of deposits to luxury quarters with choices of
layouts to suit individuals and couples. Clubhouse amenities and a closely-knit
community life make this an added attraction for people to settle in Bayport.
The Le Soir Restaurant accompanies a clutch of pizzerias to offer
pleasant dining options in Bayport. A house salad and a cup of soup come with
each entrée and the accent is decidedly French as the name would suggest. The
Bayport House has an enterprising couple as new owners and they have given the
menu a modern touch. This restaurant is rumored to have been a speakeasy during
prohibition days, but is very above board now with neatly if casually dressed
diners. Trophies of hunts long past decorate the walls and a few hand-made
figurines of ducks are said to be the remnants of a local diner's handicraft as
he could not pay his bills! The Bayport House has flirted with German and Italian
food before the present owners took over. The bar has weathered all these
storms with a stoical and alluring inventory of the best wines, spirits, beer
and liquors.
The
Public Library has a commendable selection of books and journals and is pro-active
in enticing young and old to use its extensive services and to participate in
information and awareness programs. It has state-of-the-art computer facilities
and a significant presence on the Internet. Education has always been a matter
for emphasis in Bayport and the town has an excellent School District, with a particularly good record in
sport including wrestling. The local Teacher's Association plays a helpful role
in maintaining dialogue and close coordination with the community it serves.
The Chamber
of Commerce is surprisingly active for a place as peaceful and quiet as
Bayport. This body helps its members reach out to the community and to function
in a spirit of harmony. The Lions Club is also very active and enriches
Bayport's community life. It has served the people for more than 3 decades and
its ranks continue to swell.
The
Bayport Aerodrome has the distinction of teaching people with disabilities to
fly. It has a fine and intriguing collection of aircraft since the first days
of flying. Jimmy Kaler is the hero who overcame
spinal cord injury to build an aircraft with controls for the handicapped and
now brings joy and new courage to folk with physical limitations.
The
shortest of visits is adequate to get a flavor of the superior quality of life
in Bayport. The stately homes,
convenient shopping and helpful people, mingle well with the scent of the sea
and the green and inviting surroundings. The town is clearly a place of choice
amongst all Long
Island's
alternatives, to set up base or have a home and enjoy a productive and peaceful
life
