Bayshore offers a competitive and attractive alternative as a residence, business
location or vacation spot, to other towns in Long Island. It makes best use of its close
proximity to both the Ocean and Manhattan, and the local administration
operates in close cooperation with the community at large, to provide optimal
infrastructure for smooth flow of all the amenities that one may expect from a
town. Bayshore has some 30 thousand residents and the
town is accessible from the mainland by road, rail or over water. People from
all walks of life and various cultures are actively solicited to settle in Bayshore, and add to the diversity around a core of
descendants of original settlers. Harmonious community development is a welcome
feature of life in this town. The Chamber of Commerce has been in existence for
more than 50 years and is an invaluable resource for newcomers and its existing
members alike. The Southside Hospital has rendered yeoman service for all
in need of emergency medical aid since 1923 and does not operate for profit. It
has some 500 beds, is now part of a network of almost 40 medical institutions
and is the only place in the county to treat serious brain injuries. The YMCA
has an imposing structure in Bayshore and its
calendar is full of social development activities. The people of Bayshore pay great attention to helping each other and give
of themselves freely for the benefit of the community and the town.
Splendid architecture with
illustrious examples from the major schools and periods of history is an
engaging feature of Bayshore. You can see living
examples of Colonial
mansions, Victorian
and Tudor styles,
Mediterranean inspiration and cottages as found in England. These traditional styles blend with
modern structures as Bayshore makes every effort to
keep up with the times and with new developments in technology. The town has an
alluring array of housing in the form of standard homes, luxury condominiums,
modern apartments and secure shelter designed for the elderly. Quality housing
and excellence in architecture are unique propositions of the Bayshore value for prospective investors. This is borne out
by the strong demand in the town reported by realtors of stature.
The Bayshore
Marina is the town's special pride and joy. It is one of the longest and most
scenic in the entire County. Boating and fishing are primary pastimes. Bayshore is also the hub for the Fire Island National
Seashore. Operators conduct pelagic tours from the ocean front and the area is
known for a wealth of bass and flounder. The Westfield Shopping town is the
main man-made tourist attraction in this center of marine and park land
wonders. Bayshore's history is not very different
from most other places on Long Island. The 20th century saw a move towards suburban life and
people also discovered the pleasures of summer vacations in the area. However
architecture and community development are the twin peaks of this town's
achievement. It is clear to even a casual visitor on a fleeting tour that Bayshore scores over its rivals in these two important
parameters.
