Bellmore was amongst the first settlements on
Long Island around the middle of the 17th
century. It has evolved steadily from an agricultural area in to a superior
suburb chosen for residence by discerning citizens and home to clusters of
business and enterprise. Proximity to the much sought after Jones Beach and a rail road commute of under an
hour to downtown New York City, are key advantages of a Bellmore base.
The Reinhard Early Childhood Center plays a crucial role in developing
good learning habits in children. It operates a carefully constructed program
in accordance with School District principles and methods and prepares its wards for
successful academic careers through various School grades. The Winthrop Avenue Primary Center is responsible for Grades 3 and 4
and the Shore Road Intermediate Center takes care of Grades 5 and 6.
The
Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores meets every
month with the Fire Department playing host. The member's network with each
other over some superbly catered food that is provided by a member. They also
discuss local developments and take position on common issues.
Athletics
is important to Bellmore residents and it has one of the best running clubs on Long Island. The Bellmore Striders meet more
than once a week, have rigorous practice sessions and are passionate about
their sport and competition. The Bellmore Kickboxing Academy has a large and modern facility in
town with programs for both men and women. The cardio-vascular effect of a
workout is as impressive as the Martial Arts aspect. The East Bay Park has courts and picnic spots to suit
those who are not in to the jogging and boxing levels of fitness. The Newbridge Road Park has a skating rink and game tables
apart from outdoor recreation arrangements.
The Oak
Chalet is Bellmore's pride when it comes to dining. The
restaurant has its own butchered aged steak and there is plenty of fresh
seafood on offer as well in a range that is unmistakably German in orientation.
The Mixing Bowl Eatery has a good reputation as well, with its main claim to
fame being in terms of the reasonable tab with which diners end a visit. The
Brokerage Comedy Club, the Central Ice Bar, Fame's, Effin
Gruvin and J. T. Noone's
are some of the places in town where people can relax, have a drink and
generally enjoy friendly company after dark.
The Bellmore realty market is characterized by a
movement to preserve every example of Colonial and Victorian architecture. It
is a place for those who value vintage awnings and masterpieces of hand crafts.
The close community support and high degree of interaction is also reassuring
for newcomers. Homes
range form $ 200 thousand for a single-family design to over $ one million for
a mansion by the ocean.
