Bellport excels
in three things: Golf, Tennis and Sailing. This combination, though deceptively
simple, makes the town in to one of the most sought-after resorts on Long Island. Scores of other towns have similar
resources but Bellport's administration and 3 thousand residents have done an
extraordinary job of development, maintenance and packaging.
Bellport
came in to being as late as the beginning of the 20th century. This puts it
some 200 years behind the oldest of its neighbors on Long Island. Nevertheless, Bellport has
succeeded in making up to an extent by careful conservation of the oldest of
its structures and a studied diligence in blending modernity with tradition.
This gives it an ambience of culture and modern history and enhances the value
of the town.
Some 60
miles distant from Manhattan, Bellport adds to the beauty of its
bay-front Marina with a public ferry and boat slips to the Ocean front that
is close by. Its beaches are kept in pristine condition and adorned with
thoughtful touches for the convenience of vacationers. Residents and visitors
respond by descending on the spots in droves, especially during the long months
of summer. Lifeguards are always visible and alert and contribute to family
enjoyment through the security they provide.
The 18-hole
golf course is a much-prized center of attraction. It was established a good
ten years before Bellport was even established as a town! The local community
has made regular investments in the upkeep and upgrades of the verdant
property, and is rewarded by long waiting periods for prospective new entrants
to the Club.
People of
all ages, both residents and their guests love to use the extensive facilities
for tennis at Bellport. Courts have the latest in surfaces and everyone can
find partners to suit their skills and style.
The
Bellport Village Marina is a popular spot throughout summer. It has 150 berths
and a spectacular view of the Bay. Fishing and hunting for crabs are favorite
pastimes by day, while harmonious and stirring concerts take place as and after
the sun goes down. The Marina's ambience is studded by extensive
open spaces and greenery, giving the entire place an almost addictive air.
The town
is named after a Captain Bell, who first cam to the area to break up a ship
that had floundered off the coast. He so loved the place that he made a house
and settled down here. Many vacationers are tempted to follow his lead and
become permanent residents! Realtors
enjoy and support a throbbing demand for
real estates and homes in Bellport. The excellent recreational facilities
combine with adequate schooling and scenic homes to provide a most desirable
lifestyle for families.
