Calverton
has a gregarious personality. This refreshing and vast part of Suffolk shows Long Island in its original and best light.
Calverton makes a special effort to preserve the glorious agricultural heritage
of New York State. It also offers some of the most
exhilarating outdoor recreation attractions available in this part of the United States.
Simple
farming operations are always joyous for city slickers, and especially
important for children raised in cities to learn at first hand. The Fritz Levin
Farm and Edmund Hound are two places in Calverton where you can harvest
strawberries during the season. Picking the striking fruit from rows of plants
in an open field is an absorbing diversion to which families can look forward
as an annual ritual.
Calverton
and the surrounding parts of Suffolk also have beautiful apple orchards.
Some of these offer visitors and their children opportunities to participate in
harvests. Farms tend to be exceptionally busy when it is time to pick the
delicious fruit, so it is best to call and make an appointment, rather than to
drop in unexpectedly. (516) 734-6441 will connect you to the gorgeous Baiting
Hollow Nursery on Sound Avenue in Calverton.
Skydiving
is one of the most unusual pastimes that New Yorkers can enjoy in Calverton.
This densely populated and built-up State has almost three thousand acres set
aside for airport and landing zone facilities in its county of Suffolk, just for skydiving. Experts and
enthusiasts obviously frequent Calverton to enjoy adventure and thrills, but
the especially pleasing aspect of this place, is that a person who has never
jumped of dived from an aircraft before, can drop in at Calverton and
experience the romance with ease and relative safety. You can have your first
jump video-recorded, dive with friends and indulge in the pastime to your
heart’s content!
Calverton
excels in traditional outdoor pursuits, as it does for the more modern and
daring genre, such as skydiving. The Nature Conservancy Calverton Ponds
Preserve has over three hundred acres of nature trails. The wild biodiversity
of vegetation, fish, and birds is truly staggering. Hikers can be driven to
distraction in the rich habitat, and hardly want to return to modern
civilization!
The city
knows that no american home can be
complete without a liberal golf available. The Calverton Links is championship
grade. All 18 holes are available throughout the year. The clubhouse is big
enough to host large business and social events.
Though
Calverton has excellent road and rail connections that make day visits
possible, the town also has an excellent bed and breakfast option to add to
your trip value. The Field of Gold property is conveniently located near Route
25. Set in the midst of verdant countryside, the building has a charmingly
rustic atmosphere. The service is exceptionally warm and attentive, and a stay
here can be a welcome change from the robotic and business-like efficiency of
the rest of New York. Local wines are memorable additions
to cookies and other complimentary gifts that you will discover in your room.
