My Neighborhood - Long Island, New York
Centerport

All of the Northern Shore of Long Island is beautiful, but even so Centerport stands out like a Beauty Queen in a pageant. The town's name is due to its location between the eastern and western ends of Huntington. You will find a delectable range of antique shops, fine dining and museums within its 6 mile radius. The town has quiet streets lined with trees and a tranquil setting. A hatchery, planetarium and some historic buildings add to the attractions of the place.

Troop 113 of the Scouts Movement is from Centerport. It has functioned since 1940 and is a mark of the social consciousness of generations of resident families. The unit is c chartered by the local Fire Service.

The Vanderbilt Museum is an important landmark in town. Natural History specimens accompany art treasures from around the world. A Planetarium, one of the best in America, keeps the Museum close company. More than 11 thousand celestial bodies are shown here in regular shows and the structure includes a powerful telescope. The theater is 60 feet tall. The Suydam Barn is another place for Centerport visitors.

The Centerport Yacht Club, it is an important part of the town because of the unique and extensive facilities if offers members. It is more than 50 years old and its affiliations include one to the U.S. sailing Association. Catering, a pool and a beach with guards, are a few of the benefits for members, apart from the primary focus on sailing and boating. Dancing, picnics and festivities add to the pleasures of membership and the Club has special programs to encourage the marine habit in children. Centerport has two beaches for those who prefer public facilities by the Ocean.

The Centerport Harbor Bed and Breakfast is a great place for visitors from out of town. Splendid views from spacious rooms make welcoming packages with hot breakfasts cooked to order and make every guest feel welcome and as though at home. It is a refreshing change for people tired of the routine of anonymous traveling and hotels. Centerport has an adequate motel as well.

You would expect a place with more than twice the average national per head income to have good dining choices and Centerport's Tung Tin with Chinese Cuisine, Nicky's with American fare and the Swan Bay Inn will not disappoint you.

Centerport living is truly an experience to savor for all families and for people of all ages and backgrounds. Realtors can help you buy a fairytale property on the oceanfront or amidst peaceful and rustic surroundings. A Centerport property is always a wise investment and there will be no dearth of eager buyers should you ever feel a need to move on. Choose between traditional ranches and some newly developed localities.
