We may
not know all the reasons for William Nicoll of Islipe in England to have purchased some 80 square
miles of land from the original Secatogue inhabitants, at this particular
location, but it has certainly paid handsome dividends in the following
centuries! Central
Islip is
one of Long
Island's
best known and well loved towns with a population of over 32 thousand. It has
branched from its first commercial and trading shoots in to solid branches of
learning and education.
The School District is a quality gem in the Central
Islip Crown. The Mulvey School has been identified as amongst the 100
most improved elementary schools in the State. Children of this town have a
blessed advantage of high standards of education and rich student lives. It
does not end with Schools though-the New York Institute of Technology has a
Campus in Central
Islip. This
Institution combines a fine athletic tradition and impressive sports and
recreation facilities with an admirable scholastic record, with a focus on
employment and vocational opportunities. It is known by its illustrious alumni
as much as by its place in the world of applied research. The School District has programs of continuing education
for adults as well. The Central Islip Library, with its modern façade and
dynamic Internet presence, continues and extends the academic, learning,
knowledge and research heritage of the town.
The
Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance Corps is typical of the helpful and
service-oriented nature of Central Islip residents and the town itself. The body was formed
after a tragic accident in the mid-1950s and the Corps has never looked back
since. People in the town and surrounding areas can call Hauppauge around the
clock. This body has the distinction of breaking new ground by using women
drivers for day-time duty, an unusual and courageous move in its time.
Sports
are an important part of Central Islip life and the town is proud of its Long Island Ducks
team and the new Citibank Park Stadium. The latter has a very modern structure
with dug-outs for the handicapped. The stadium is centrally located in a
commercial zone. It will give a fillip to the future sporting encounters in the
city and help the home team train and hone their skills.
The
Cohalan County Court Complex adds to Central Islip's stature. The Empire Zone has
attracted major investments. A major hotel will open soon. The International
Star of the Information Technology World, Computer Associates is a major
employer, and an additional reason for people to seek residence in Central Islip in increasing numbers. It should
come as no surprise that homes
in this enlightened town can cross $ half a million in value with ease! A
number of properties including vast ranches are available and realtors help buyer
and sellers come together in a transparent and easy atmosphere for fair trade.
Central
Islip has
all the trappings of a city and can rival its bigger neighbors in the
convenience and lifestyle it offers resident families. However the strongest point
of the town remains its scholastic and enterprising nature, with open doors and
myriad opportunities for children and adults alike to work towards a common
good and a brighter future.
