East Hampton
was founded in 1648 by settlers from the mainland and remains an active witness
to the evolution of the United States to this day. Its early days were similar
to that of other parts of Long Island-a tradition of agriculture and fishing, transformed in the
early 20th century in to a plush suburb and resort. The change and pace of
development is overseen by trustees who are armed with legislative rights handed
down from Colonial times. This factor has protected the unique nature of East Hampton in the face of Manhattan pressures to conform to known
templates. Many rich and famous people have homes in East Hampton, but the Long Island Railroad makes
it easy for anyone to visit the place and have a good time.
East
Hampton has
a pleasing blend of the old and the new. The beaches and countryside appear
almost untouched by modernity and yet the town comes alive in the evenings and offers
pulsating nightlife options. It is truly a near-perfect way to get rid of
stress and to have a great time. It is inviting by summer and a pleasure at the
height of winter as well. People can and do return here for restful vacations
throughout the year. It is a symbol of freedom and enjoying the fruits of
enterprise in an environment that keeps pace with technology and preserves its
heritage at the same time. One may conclude that East Hampton captures the essence and best parts
of American tradition.
East
Hampton has
a wide range of accommodation that suits all kinds of visitors from all over
the United States and other countries as well. Many of
them are on or near the ocean front, have quaint Colonial charm and offer huge
banquet-type meals to go with a care-free vacation. You can enjoy modern
comforts such as air-conditioning, whilst basking in 19th century elegance
amongst magnificent period furniture.
The Main Beach at East Hampton is a vast expanse of sand where you
can spend hours on end. Some hotels offer shuttle services to and from the
beach, which beats driving as parking space is scarce and can be expensive. You
can pack a meal and have a full day by the ocean. A most engaging feature is
that the beach runs without an obstacle. You can walk for hours gazing at the
blue expanse to the East.
Shopping
is an interesting diversion in East Hampton. Most shops sport top international labels such as Coach
Factory and Polo and there is an excellent Art Gallery as well, with work of some
sought-after artists. Strolling by the shop windows and browsing through their
carefully selected contents can help you land some unexpected treasure at an
attractive price.
Rowdy
Hall is one of the best places for a meal in East Hampton with its
ambience of an old Pub. The hamburgers are highly rated and you will agree that
their reputation is well deserved. Fine dining and specialist cuisine is
available near and around the town. The town has a very posh nightclub that is
the venue for many sophisticated product launches.
Come to East Hampton when you are low or feeling a sense
of inertia. The vacation spot will recharge your batteries and you will soon be
back at work with zest, though looking forward to your next sojourn at this
beautiful part of Long Island.
