East
Meadow is a
major suburb in Nassau with over 35 thousand residents and
a town area in excess of 5 square miles. East Meadow has clearly come a long way since
its agrarian past. It appears to have a continuing attraction for new home buyers. It is also
well organized to meet the special needs of a relatively mature population.
The
original pastures of East Meadow made it a favorite of cattle owners in the 17th and early 18th
centuries. They used the area that is now the town of East Meadows to graze their herds. The land was
held by the British during the Revolutionary War and they used it as logistic
support. Land holdings were consolidated after independence and East Meadow became known for large and highly
productive agricultural estates. It followed the path of the rest of Nassau in the decades following World War
II, and has steadily emerged as a residential suburb of choice in the County.
The Eisenhower Park is a showpiece of East Meadows. Lit
tennis courts and a golf driving range accompany playing fields, 3 public
18-hole courses, and a path for jogging. Quality open air entertainment is
available when the weather permits. The Park includes a Memorial for Veterans
and a fine restaurant that caters to events as well.
Medical
facilities in East
Meadow
match the needs of the relatively large population. The town has a Substance
Alternative Clinic as well, to cater to the needs of people all over the County
who need help to treat some form of addiction. The Center for Primary Care and
the Musculo Skeletal Institute accompany the County Medical Center in providing comprehensive and
convenient healthcare for East Meadow residents.
The East Meadow School District has served the local community since
1814 and its 9 schools have some 8 thousand students on its rolls. Continuing education
for adults includes English, Defensive driving, Wellness, Self-Development and
Computers amongst other subjects. There are rebates for people who are over 60
years of age. The town has an adequate public library. The soccer club is one
of the biggest in the County and has members between the ages of 4 and 19.
Teams travel as well as play in intra-mural tournaments.
The East
Meadow Chamber of Commerce has key members of the local business community as
members and helps new enterprises find their feet in town. It is also a forum
for business to dialogue with people at large and to present viewpoints to the
town administration
East
Meadow
offers a variety of dining choices. It is one of the better places in Nassau for
Japanese food and other Asian cuisine with a halal meat option is also
available. The town is quite a place for Italian food with everything from a
pizza to an elegant meal with classic flavors and distinctive wine. Steak diners
satisfy conservative tastes and chains such as Burger King are present in
abundance as well. East Meadow sports a slew of Pubs and a Night Club to meet the needs of people who
value evening entertainment with friends, table games and music to heighten the
pleasure of a relaxing session of drinking.
The
Coliseum Motor Inn in town has over 100 well appointed rooms, an outdoor pool
and multi-lingual staff. The East Meadow realty market is dynamic with over 15 realtors based right
in the town.
