East
Norwich can
compete with the best of the rest on Long Island in terms of a dream quality of
life. The town is well located, has a pleasing closeness to nature and has been
developed with all needs of a modern family in view. It provides a supportive
and encouraging atmosphere for children and has good facilities for the adult
members of a community as well.
East
Norwich shares
a Public Library with Oyster Bay. It matches its peers on Long Island and elsewhere with a full range of
Internet options that include extensive databases and links for children and
adults. Generous grants have allowed purchase of DVDs and Videos as well as the
provision of Computer and Internet literacy courses.
There are
three Schools in the District covering Grades 2 to 12. The expenditure per
pupil is relatively high because of tight fiscal management. The
faculty-student relationship continues outside the classroom and the schools
lay due emphasis on sports and recreation. The Soccer Club has opportunities
for both boys and girls and there are intramural tournaments and travel to
other towns as well.
The
Muttontown Preserve is a Park that residents can enjoy. It is made of more than
500 acres of wild countryside. It is one of the largest and most beautiful
Parks on Long
Island.
There are planned trails for nature lovers and skiing runs that can be used in
winter. The Park's greatest advantage is the awareness it promotes about local
flora and fauna amongst the young. The Preserve also sites the Chelsea Estate
which is one the National Register of Historic Places.
Golf is
another attraction of East Norwich life. The Muttontown Club and the Pine Hollow Country Club
each have 18-hole courses with tree-lined fairways and challenging undulation
and water traps. Sand bunkers add to the fun for both casual and serious
followers of the game.
First
appearances at the East Norwich Inn can be deceptive. It is not a modern
building and bereft of glass, granite and the other Manhattan trappings of lodging opulence. There
is no one to open the door on your arrival and sirens sound only very rarely.
However, you can rest assured that a warm smile will welcome you, that your
room will have every modern convenience and high speed Internet will make home
seem next door, no matter how distant it may be. The cottages that this hotel
offers long-term guests are equally beguiling, though in a way that should make
the person footing the eventual bill is careful-the facilities are of a
standard that people do not want to leave and make excuses to linger in town!
Rothmans's
Steak House is the best place for a meal if you have a visitor to whom you
would like to display the best of American fare. Japanese, Italian and Chinese
restaurants are also available in East Norwich.
East
Norwich has
17th century origins and all the trappings to make it a most desirable place to
purchase a home, work
and raise a family. The town sports a number of enterprises ranging from small
stores to larger, professionally run companies. The rustic ambience stands in
pleasing contrast to the proximity of New York City. Just 3 thousand people live in this
1 square mile area, but it is sure to attract increasing numbers as word
spreads of its advantages and benefits.
