My Neighborhood - Long Island, New York
Forest Hills

Forest Hills is the neighborhood of Queens where everyone would like to reside in. Forest Hills has large homes and apartment complexes with beautiful landscape lawns and gardens. Forest Hills is also home to some of Queens finer restaurants, and quaint cafes. Forest Hills has two shopping areas: national chain and independent stores can be found along 71st Ave./Continental Ave., Austin Street and Queens Boulevard, while Metropolitan Avenue is known for its unique antique shops.

Forest Hills is home to mostly upper middle class people of all nationalities. Most are Manhattan commuters looking for a suburb to raise their children.

Most of the area's apartment buildings were constructed during the 1930s and 40s. There are both large houses, and high rise complexes. General rents in the area range of studios from $700-$1100, one bedrooms from $900-$1300, two bedrooms from $1400-$2200 and three plus bedrooms start at $2500-up.

Most commuting is done via the New York City Subway, by the E,F,G,R,V trains. The E and F trains can have you in Midtown in 20 minutes, and downtown in 35 minutes. One can also commutevia the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) at Station Square (Austin Street and 71st Avenue) which will have a commuter in Penn Station in just 15 minutes.
