My Neighborhood - Long Island, New York
Franklin Square

Large murals originally commissioned by a Bank, now grace the main reading room of the Franklin Square Public Library. The theme was conceived to encourage the savings habit and shows people striving for a better future and the artist's impression of a future urban township as well. The murals must have had indelible effect on the town's people as it displays rare grit in working to keep pace with the changing world.

The Public Library is on Lincoln Road and on the Internet as well. Tax assistance for residents and a large inventory of movies are two innovations of special benefit for Franklin Square residents. It has served the community since 1937 and depends on active community participation and support.

The Library supports outstanding academic traditions in Franklin Square. The Elementary School has a consistent record of achievement in New York State. Children who study here from kindergarten to Grade 6 have an edge over their peers from many other towns. There are special classes for exceptional students, an early exposure for everyone to computers, support for children who need to improve their facility with English and Summer Remedial Classes for those who need such extra instruction. The School District stands out in its untiring effort to prepare each student as well as possible for a productive future life. The John, Polk and Washington Street Schools of Franklin Square make an unbeatable trio of continuing excellence in education. The Rath Park is open to people of all ages but its playing fields and court games, picnic tables and fun equipment add most value for youth. Children can enjoy healthy and sportive lifestyles in Franklin Square environs.

The Franklin Square thread of using the present to prepare for the future extends beyond learning and youth to mature business. A good example is the LoTurco and Company. A full range of financial services is based on painstaking research to help clients consolidate their future net worth through judicious investments in the present. U.S. Locksmiths Key to Security Incorporated has steadily worked on taking position as hardware merchants who can be relied upon to back their products with the best advice. Their customer base extends well beyond Franklin Square, helps mark the town in the national mind and leaves no stone unturned to build a healthy corporate future through customer satisfaction.

Dining in Franklin Square is distinguished by elegant restaurants and gourmet food. Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate the town scene though the likes of Wendy's, McDonalds and some heritage diners are available as well. Franklin Square offers Greek food as well but conservatives can be comforted by two excellent steak houses. The range of options is broad enough for people of most backgrounds to find suitable fare.

Franklin Square has almost 30 thousand residents spread over about 3 square miles. Franklin Square offers excellent value for housing with some outstanding homes well below the $ 1 million mark that many would find acceptable for such contemporary design. Colonial buildings have been assiduously restored and maintained in mint condition.
