My Neighborhood - Long Island, New York
Freeport

New York State's second large town is arguably its best. The waterfront would give the Riviera a run for its money. Inland, the streets have an absorbingly laid-back ambience and one feels no tiredness even after the most extended stroll under the shade of its generous trees. There is little danger of missing the big city lights as Freeport has all the dining, bars and entertainment that the most nocturnally energetic could want. Residents continue to enjoy the idyllic charm of Freeport as much as the most transient visitor as the town's living and family infrastructure by way of education, law and order and shopping is at least as good as the best of the rest. People of all ages and backgrounds fall in love with Freeport soon after first sight and generally stay that way even after long years of habitation.

The South Shore Power Squadron has a useful presence in Freeport. Its lectures and other related activities encourage all people, but especially the young to take to the pleasures of boating. This strengthens the bonds between residents and their town and is something that visitors can also look forward to during their sojourns in this picturesque town with its naturally gifted Marina.

Freeport has no fewer than 6 Parks with swimming, tennis and court games. The simple pleasures of a picnic are also a great way to enjoy some of these friendly expanses of relaxing greenery. The Waterfront Park has fishing apart from the other sports and recreation offers and stands out amongst the other Parks in Freeport in this respect. The Freeport Recreation Center is a welcome bonus with a comprehensive fitness center and a skating rink. The Center can be hired for private events. Freeport's Youth Hockey Team practices here and they have been New York State Champions. Freeport has open air sports and recreation by the water and on land as well. The town's R&R Association offers shooting facilities.

The town has excellent shopping faculties. Freeport has Chinese, Mexican and Continental cuisine, mostly in casual and family settings and with an emphasis on seafood. There are bars as well where people can relax and find some evening entertainment. Freeport is a wonderful suburb apart from its resort like character. The town has signature homes in the $ half to one million range. Buyers can choose between a naturally endowed ranch, classic Victorian structure and mansions with fabulous views of the sea.

Freeport has a population of a little over 43 thousand people and an area of just under 6 square miles. Freeport looks forward to consolidating its leadership in the County and in all of Long Island.
